It was after 2:30 pm that we departed the ferry at Wirrina Cove, there was no stopping just drove of the boat and kept on going. We wanted to get a few kays down the coast and had planned a free camp somewhere south of Meningie around Kingston SE. We took the secondary roads to Wellington following TomToms every turn, ferry across the Murray River and right onto the Princes Highway. We'd been this way several times before so there was no touring just a pit stop at Meningie for fuel then onto The Granites, a free camp 17 kilometres north of Kingston SE for the night. After a restful night and breaky at The Granites it was onto Mt Gambier.

Our plan from here on was to tour all the way back to Queensland, two or three nights at various towns across to Melbourne. Have some warranty work done on the van at Jayco's factory in Dandenong. Do a story on their new facility while we were there then continue east of Melbourne and up along the south coast.

We chose the Pine Country Caravan Park for two nights that ended up being for five nights when John and Val turned up. Also after months and months of little or no grass the feel of lush green under foot was a real luxury.

We had only come as far as Port Fairy when we had to go to plan B. Jayco could not do anything for us until April. A quick phone call to our dealer in Mildura had it resolved but parts would need to come from Jayco and could take a week or more. After seven nights in Port Fairy freezing our bits off we headed north to Mildura.

It was the first day of autumn the day we left Port Fairy and we wondered what had happened to summer. We had spent all of summer south of Perth in the SW Corner, along the South Coast WA, across the Nularbour into SA, Kanageroo Island and the west coast of Victoria and for the most part saw very little sign of summer. Mostly cold and windy with patchy drizzle. We'd been told that it was unseasonal and that the best time was from late Feb thru to early May.

That was summer and from here on the final leg will see us back in the Sunshine state before the end of the first month of autumn. There's things to be done before we go north again for the winter ..........
